If you want to visit a town where there is a rich legacy of the Old West, then Vernon, Texas is the place for you. This town in located in North Central Texas, about 50 miles northwest of Wichita Falls. You won't have any difficulty driving here because it is at the intersection of four US Highways - 287, 182, 283 and 70. Although it can get cold in the night during the winter, the daytime highs can reach close to 100ºF in the summer.

The Red River Valley Museum offers a fascinating look at Vernon's colorful history and the Historic Dona's Adobe House is the oldest house in the county. This building was once the main trading post along the Old Chisholm Trail and was the last opportunity for travelers going west to purchase their supplies.
