The city of Clute in the state of Texas was first settled in 1824 by Alexander Calvit. It was not until many years later however that it received its name. In the year 1881 the village was purchased by Soloman J. Clute and given its name. The ensuing years, until about the 1940s, saw little in the way of growth and expansion. The early forties witnessed the establishment of several construction companies and from that point on, the city blossomed.
