When you visit Taos, New Mexico, you will find a delightful blend of the old and the new. As far back as 6000 years ago, ancient peoples called this area home. History is honored here and this is evident in the many museums you will find throughout the town. Even though the population is only small, numbering about 5,000, there is a wealth of things to see and do.

There are seven museums for you to visit in this town. You can save money by purchasing one ticket that will grant you admission to all seven or you can just choose a few to visit. Art lovers will want to make stops at the Fechim Institute, with handcarved furnishings, the Taos Art Museum with over 200 works of art by Taos artists and the Van Vechten-Lineberry Taos Art Museum.
The Millicent Rogers Museum has many artifacts from the Native American and Spanish cultures as well as the first European settlers. La Hacienda de los Martinez is one of the few Spanish haciendas open to the public. Built in 1804, this is a 21-room fortress and is a wonderful example of how the family lived here 200 years ago. Take a tour, which will take you to the depths of the Rio Grande Gorge or to the heights of the tallest mountain peaks. In winter, you can enjoy fantastic skiing in this area and in summer there are scenic walking trails for you to explore. Enjoy cycling, river rafting or hiking when you come to Taos. There are many art galleries, where you can purchase a piece of art or a print to take back home. Drop into the small gift stores to pick up some souvenirs, but the memories imprinted on your mind will always take you back to Taos.
