With its unique blend of Victorian style houses and natural parks and waterways, the spectacular beauty of Woodbury, New Jersey is truly enchanting. It is one of the oldest small cities in the country, which dates back to 1683. The name comes from the first settler, Henry Wood, a Quaker from Bury, England. This community became a center for the Quaker religion and by the time the American Revolution began, it was a thriving hamlet. There are six hundred American casualties of a 1777 battle buried at the Red Bank Battlefield and General Cornwallis of the British forces made Woodbury his headquarters during the war.

With a population of about 10,000, you can stroll the streets of Woodbury and get to know the local people. There are 19 public parks and several historic monuments. Stroll down Main Street and take in the colorful facades of many of the stores and businesses. Here you will also find many restaurants and eateries, where you can enjoy a light snack or a full meal.

Take a walking tour of the town to visit many historic buildings that have been preserved through the centuries. Delaware Street, in particular, is one area where there are many historic homes, such as the 2 1/2 storey home at 195, which dates back to 1792. Visit the Friends Meeting House, where the original Quakers used to hold their meetings. This building was also the barracks for the British troops during the Revolutionary War. The Franklin House is the oldest log cabin in the area, built by Joseph Low in 1765, where the original fireplace is perfectly preserved. You can spend several days touring the historic homes because there are so many of them in this city.

Take in the Woodbury Farmers' Market, which is open from May to November of each year. It is located quite close to the downtown shopping area, so you won't have to go too far out of your way to find it. Here you will find all sorts of vendors selling crafts and the produce of the area.
