Nestled in the southeastern part of North Carolina, Shelby is conveniently located close to Charlotte and Asheville. At the 9-hole Royster Golf Course there are many different activities, such as a tournament every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. You can tee off here 364 days a year. Ride the Carousel Train located in a traditional park. With 32 jumping horses, the Carousel also features hand painted scenery and panels.
Take a dip in the Olympic sized pool at the Aquatics Center, where you will also find a covered picnic area. Walk the wooded path of the Thompson Gardens and walk across the stream on the wooden bridge. Take in the sports at one of the other eleven parks in the town, where you will also find playground equipment to keep the children entertained.
If you want to find out about the history of Shelby, visit the Farmer Courthouse Well House. Other historic buildings in this town include the Post Office Annex, Rogers' Theatreblock, the Royster Building and the Masonic Temple. The Blanton House is a Colonial Revival House that was originally a 1 1/2 story cottage and dates back to the late 1800's.
