Cornelius, in the heart of North Carolina, is a town with a fascinating history. Originally the site of two thriving cotton mills, it was the site of a large debate about cotton weighing, which resulted in one of the firms relocating just outside town. 2005 is one year to be in Cornelius to take part in the Centennial celebrations of the town, which start on July 4 with a parade.
The Alexandriana Park was the setting for the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1775 and the interpretation center has many artifacts about this historic event. See the exhibitions by local artists at the Christa Faut Gallery, where you will see contemporary fine art, pottery and jewelery.
