Known as the birthplace of the state of Maine, Freeport is located only two hours north of Boston. While in Freeport, you have to indulge in the traditional food of the state at the Lobster Cooker where you can enjoy not only lobster, but a variety of seafood dishes native to Maine. Freeport's Original Brewpub, Gritty McDuff's, offers handcrafted ales along with seafood dishes, including lobster. If you are not a seafood lover, you will still be able to get your fill of Chinese, Italian or Syrian food, in addition to the traditional steak or pork.

Explore the history of Freeport at the Freeport Historical Society, with its exhibits, artifacts and photos of life in the past. The Desert of Maine is a national park that is also a natural wonder with its giant sand dunes. The park has many picnic sites, a barn museum and guided tours every 30 minutes. Take a cruise to see the whales or watch the sunset from the water through one of the many short cruises that are available.

Christmas in Freeport features a talking Christmas tree, a parade of lights and horse-drawn carriage rides. The Winter Sports Expo, held each November, is a unique event with many fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.
