Hadley, Massachusetts is located in the center of Pioneer Valley and is a place of natural beauty and rich history. The Norwottuck Rail Trail, which is part of the Connecticut River Greenway State Park and one of two paved rail trails within the Massachusetts State Forests and Parks System is an excellent way to be part of the exquisite scenery and see why the early settlers chose this area.. The trail is a gentle grade and has a smooth surface creating perfect conditions for cyclists, skaters, walkers, runners, and cross country skiers of all ages and abilities.
Stroll along the Hadley common, the oldest town common still intact in New England. Along this one mile stretch you will see many historic homes and buildings. The Moses Porter house, built in 1713, is the oldest house on the common and has one of the most photographed doors in the county. Another building built by Moses Porter is the Porter Phelps Huntingdon Museum and is listed on the national registry of historic homes.
At Skinner State Park, you can have an unparalleled view of the whole countryside from the 1000-foot elevation. The Summit House, which was once a hotel on the top of the mountain, is open for daily tours. The Holyoke Range State Park has ample opportunities for hiking and horseback riding and in the winter this is a popular skiing and snowmobiling area.
