Located on the west banks of the Mississippi River, Port Allen is the governmental center of West Baton Rouge Parish.  The town offers many goods and services to its residents and the many people that reside in the surrounding rural areas.  With top of the line policing and a fantastic 911 service, along with a class three fire department, Port Allen is a safe and secure place to live and visit. The city of Port Allen has an excellent transportation system, including easily navigated waterways, railroads, bridges, and highways, which allows the industries in the area the ability to easily transport their goods.  The Port of Baton Rouge serves barges and ocean-going vessels that import and export goods ranging from chemicals, paper products, domestically manufactured goods, crude ores, and petroleum. 

The Port Allen Lock is a free floating structure that is the largest of its kind and serves the shipping industry well by shortening the distance to the Gulf of Mexico by approximately one hundred miles. 

The city of Port Allen also offers many different festivals and annual events.  A popular tradition in the area is the "Krewe of the Oaks Mardi Gras".  It is held the Sunday before Mardi Gras day and promises good times full of cheer and hospitality.  Another popular activity is the Christmas Bonfest where there are spectacular bonfires and live entertainment.  Thousands of people visit on December 23rd to dance and sing the night away.
