What is now Portsmouth used to be a settlement that actually precedes Harrodsburg, which was founded in 1774, and Boonesboro, which was formed in 1775.  This means that Greenup County had the very first settlement in the entire state of Kentucky.  Stroll through the streets of this village and talk to the friendly people.
