A village of about 600 people awaits you when you visit Thomson, Illinois. However, there is plenty to keep you occupied in this quaint little town and the friendly people are always willing to chat. While there are no hotels here; there are campgrounds where you can pitch a tent or park your RV.

Visit the Thomson Depot Museum, which was built in the late 1800's. The wooden frame building is typical of the style of buildings in small towns and villages dating back to that period in time. When you visit this site, you can sit on the original benches and imagine what it must have been like for pioneers taking the train into an unknown world. The first postmaster's desk is still here as well as the keys used to send telegraphs. Stroll around the depot to see two hundred years of history on the walls in the lanterns and tools that the crews used.

The Great River Trail Bike Path runs through Thomson and offers an excellent opportunity for biking or walking in a naturally scenic setting.  Walk the trails of The Thomson Causeway Park, where there are also opportunities for you to cast your line in the stream and catch one of the abundant trout.
