Tifton, Georgia, is a city that really exemplifies Southern hospitality - so much so its nickname is "the Friendly City". It was named after the owner of a sawmill here and the name remained. With a population of about 15,000 and the warm Georgia climate, you can enjoy the great outdoors at any time of the year.

Join in the fun of the Arts in Black Festival during March where there are week long workshops from various artists, poetry readings and all kinds of craft booths and activities for the children. Visit the Jefferson Davies site that marks the place where he fought his final battle of the Civil War and was arrested. The Georgia Agrirama Living History Museum is a popular tourist destination. This is a 19th century village where you will find two farmsteads, and all the various buildings that such a village would need. The staff are dressed in costumes of the period and you can watch them carry out the daily chores.

At the Adventure Zone, the whole family can join in the fun of miniature golf, go-carts, arcade games and a skating rink. You can't miss the Landscape Murals with the various scenes of plants and flowers that you will find in the Tifton area. Our Town Tifton has homemade sculptures of the community as well as paintings of folk art.

There are four city parks where you can enjoy the spectacular scenery and the fresh air. Stroll through the exquisite gardens at the Fulwood Gardens Center and enjoy the summer concerts at Fulwood Park. See the largest magnolia tree in the country at the aptly named Magnolia Park.

The avid angler will want to spend some time at the Paradise Public Fishing Area where there are six well-stocked lakes and streams. If golf is your passion, there are two golf courses for you to choose from. Forest Lakes Golf Course features 9 holes and the Sunsweet Hills Golf Course is an 18-hole championship course.

The Tifton Mall, K-Mart and the WalMart Supercenter are the major shopping centers in town, but there is also Lowe's Home Hardware and numerous smaller stores. You should not have any difficulty finding something special to take back home with you as a reminder of your vacation.
