Railroad history still lives on with the Dinky, only one of three steam engines in the world. This locomotive was once used to transport cotton to the textile mills. The Haralson Covered Bridge is a delight to history lovers because the Haralson Mill House, an old general store, an old mill site and a blacksmith shop surround it.
For outdoor entertainment there are three parks within the city. Johnson's Park and Pine Log Park have softball and baseball fields, tennis courts a swimming pool and playground as well as areas where you can have a family picnic. The native plants of the region are in full bloom at the Lewis Vaughn Botanical Gardens where there is also a pavilion, where community events are held.
Black Shoals Park and lake is a 650 acre reservoir and park where you can enjoy fishing, boating, picnicking and hiking. Fish off the pier in this park or if you prefer golf, you will love the 18 hole course designed by Arnold Palmer at the Cherokee Run Gold Club. Simulated golf is also available at the Virtual World Simulations where you can tee off at one of 30 PGA Championship courses.
Shop at the specialty stores in town or visit the larger cities where there are many opportunities for shopping at department stores and malls.
