This museum contains over 75,000 books, documents, and artefacts which focus on African American history and life experience. This 60,000 foot facility has all types of exhibits for you to look at and enjoy as well as internet and web access and research and development.
There are over 80 species of beautiful winged creatures, from around the world. There are over 3 acres of beautiful living butterflies all in different stages of life. This landmark attraction in south Florida began in 1988 and has been very successful ever since. You will also notice various ponds and waterfalls giving this a most natural feel.
The Anne Kolb Nature Centre has over 88 acres of park and recreation land, and also includes racquetball and tennis courts, as well as volleyball areas and a playground for the children. Available for rental are two 45 capacity picnic areas as well as kayaks and canoes in which you can tour the 350 acres of the west lake. The children's playground also has an available splash fountain. There are over 1500 acres (1.5 hectares) of wetlands with an abundance of animals and endangered species. There are 5 different boat trails you can explore, you may also fish, but electric motors are the only type of motors allowed to operate in this natural wonder of beauty. There is also a five level observatory tower, fishing pier, and two immaculate nature trails. A 250 seat Amphitheatre, 3,500 gallon aquarium, 10 minute ecological video and a 6,060 square foot mangrove hall round out the attractions here at the nature centre. It can be rented for weddings or other special occasions including meetings. A 42 seat boat makes guided tours for 40 minute sessions. Admission is as follows: West Lake Park's regular weekend and gate entrance fee of $1 per person (children 5 and under free) will be in effect. There is no entrance fee for Anne Kolb Nature Centre.
The Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum contains a 5,000 square foot exhibit hall consisting of artefacts and cultural displays different to the Florida Seminole. The exhibits depict the way of living of the Seminoles in South Florida during the late 1800's. The different ways of Hunting, cooking, travel, marriage, folklore and spiritual beliefs are displayed in an historical fashion. The museum has rare Seminole artefacts which are borrowed from the Smithsonian Institution. Items are leggings, moccasins, bracelets, beaded sashes, and turtle shell rattles. The exhibits also include Seminole war-period weaponry including swords and guns. ,The exhibit gallery also has computers for those who would like to look at information regarding the Seminole unique history and culture.
