Milford is located at the mouth of the Housatonic River, between the cities of New Haven and Bridgeport. This seaside resort community along the Long Island Sound has many beautiful neighborhoods, beaches, and historical places. Silver Sands State Park contains sand dunes, nature areas, beaches, trails and boardwalks. Nearby Charles Island is accessible by the sandbar during low tide. Milford has a thriving arts district, with places like the Milford Council for the Arts, Firehouse Art Gallery, and Milford Cultural Center.
Orange is a small city outside of Milford. This is a rural and mostly residential city originally settled by the Algonquian Indians. It contains several historic places including the Orange Center Historic District.
Madison is a small beachside town in the Greater New Haven area. Although downtown Madison is developed with boutique shopping, cafes, and small businesses, it does not allow large franchises, giving the town an old village charm. The Madison Green Historic District and E.C. Scranton Memorial Library are two interesting places to visit. Large public beaches can be found in the Hammonasset State Park, along with boating, camping, picnicking, fishing, hiking and biking areas. It also contains the Megs Point Nature Center, with activities and exhibitions throughout the year. Madison also has several private beaches and country clubs, such as the Surf Beach Club and Madison Beach Club.
The Coastal Fairfield County region of Connecticut is also known as the Gold Coast, because it is one of the highest-income places in the United States. This small, but bustling area has plenty of attractions, miles of coastline, and is also close to New York City.
Norwalk is a large Fairfield County city that is also part of the New York Metropolitan Area. Norwalk is a major business center with the headquarters of many food, chemical, technology, and media companies. Norwalk has so many museums, most centering around its historic location along the Long Island Sound. Bethel is just a one-hour drive from New York City. Bethel has a number of historic places including the lovely Greenwood Avenue and South Street, as well as the P.T. Barnum Fountain, named after the circus founder and showman. Bethel is conveniently accessible by Interstate 84, as well as by train.
Riverside is a neighborhood of Greenwich. The Greenwich area contains four beaches: Greenwich Point, Island Beach, Great Captain Island, and Byram Beach. Danbury is a large, English-influenced city in Fairfield County. Sightseeing and recreation take place along the hiking trails of the Old Quarry Nature Center, Tarrywile Mansion and Park, and the Bear Mountain Reservation. Candlewood Lake is popular for fishing, swimming, and boating. There are also ten National Historic Places, along with the Danbury Museum and Historical Society.
Bridgeport is the largest city in Connecticut. Nicknamed as "Park City", Bridgeport has over thirty beautiful city parks; there are also several seaside beach areas including Pleasure Beach and Seabright Beach. The waterfront Black Rock neighborhood contains Black Rock Harbor, Captain's Cove Seaport, and Black Rock Yacht Club. This eclectic artist community is also home to the Black Rock Arts Center and the Arts and Entertainment District. The Beardsley Zoo is the only zoo in the entire state. A few more interesting places to visit are the Discovery Museum and Planetarium, Barnum Museum, and Housatonic Museum of Art.
