Bangkok is the fourth capital city of Thailand, the Old Bangkok was named the 'Ratanakosin Island' because it was surrounded by Chao Phraya River on the west side and inner city moat and canals on the other side. This site was started in 1782, its sole purpose was for Rama to mark his ascension to the throne, the relocation of the capital and for the birth of Phra Kaeo. Includes temples and the emerald Buddha. This palace is open everyday but the clothing attire must be modest. This requirement must be obeyed or you will not be permitted inside or may have to borrow clothing.

The largest reclining Buddha maintains here, being 46 m long and covered in gold plaster . The Buddha's feet are laid with mother of pearl and contain 109 symbols. Truly a breathtaking monument.
